malm, conquered

so last night, i spent 4 hours piecing together this guy for my room. it was quite an effort, but by the end, i was proud of my accomplishment and equally happy with the result. more storage always makes me giddy. i love the mirrored top and the vertical shape of this dresser--it's really great for my room, as it saves floor space but offers tons of drawers for my stuff. a couch to assemble is on the agenda tonight. but hooray for our apt finally coming together! here's what the finished product looks like:

midnight snacks

midnight snacks are a favorite pastime of mine on the weekends. cozied up on the couch with movies, i often get that ben & jerry's craving late at night. not my healthiest habit, but we all have our vices. this midnight snack box that melanie made is adorable and a perfect amenity for overnight house guests. i'd even make one for myself. such a sweet idea!

stumbled upon this awesome site called the makers project from because i'm addicted and i really love it. brooklyn, these days, is home to so many talented artists, chefs, designers and more. there's a real diy culture that has sprung up and so many amazing, artisanal products come from bk. what better way to celebrate the talent than via todd selby-esque photos. i love this insider look at the inspiring spaces and people behind all of these great projects.

crafty girl

so, diy (do-it-yourself) has become somewhat of a trendy thing these days, but i'd like to say that my diy days go way back to elementary school when i loved sitting in my room to make my own name bracelets/beaded lanterns/pop-up cards, etc. what can i say? i was a bored little girl, and my mom needed things to keep me busy. i spent the better part of our 10-hour car ride to canada one summer making a hideous beaded lantern that my mom still hangs in our house to this day. now that's love.

my point is, i like crafting, and i'm not the best at it, but it's definitely something that i find fun and interesting, and i've been seeing some projects lately that i'm itching to try. take, for example, the painted spoons. i've been seeing expensive versions of these being sold, but doing it yourself is sooo much cheaper,  and fairly easy. plus, when people say "wow, those spoons are so cool," you get to follow up with a smug, "thanks...i made it." it's a pretty satisfying line. the same can be said for the cool rope-y bracelets below, and the painted clutch! the design possibilities are endless, and you'll have something unique that no one else has. so, hopefully, i'll get to start embarking on one, or all, of the projects below sometime soon, and maybe you'll jump on the diy bandwagon too.
