i always love checking out street style for inspiration and these looks in shades of head-to-toe cream and white have been on my mind lately. the light palette looks clean and so sophisticated--i'm taking a mental note for spring.

LA recap three

more LA photos! these are from day two--after a good night's sleep, i ended up at the fairfax flea (aka the melrose trading post), with friends where i picked up a sweet pendant. i also spotted some vintage suitcases which were too cute, but i resisted asking about the price since i knew hauling them back to nyc would be a pain. i'll have to keep my eyes open at brooklyn flea this summer for some though.

after checking out the goods at the flea, we headed to basix cafe in west hollywood for a delicious brunch. and i may also have doubled up on bloody marys--it was vacation after all! the food at basix was delicious, and it's always nice to sit outside and enjoy the weather in LA. it was such a good morning, followed by an epic nap back in brentwood and a fun dinner party at miss zias' (pictured below). she's one stylish lady, a good friend and it was a blast to see her and the rest of my girls out in cali. a few more photos still to come!

four corners: kicks

i started a new job here today and i'd be lying if i said i didn't experience any first day jitters before walking in. it feels somewhat like the first day of school (which is fitting, since i am in a "school" of sorts for a few months at the new gig) which inspired me to create this post on sneakers. new clothes and pencils and notebooks always signified the start of a new school year in september and a first-day outfit wouldn't be complete without a new pair of kicks. i've included a pair i've been lusting over below (but they are waaay out of my price range, boo), as well as two very different pairs from my tried-and-true sneaker brand, vans, and a pair with some fur to keep you warm through winter. let me know what you think, and hope your mondays are off to a good start!

LA recap two

as i mentioned before, i also took some time during my first day in LA to visit the brentwood country mart. my friend ashley suggested it as a fun place to check out, and she was totally on point. the place is home to some amazing shops, including a well curated bookstore, where i picked up this and this, a great restaurant and artisanal food store called farmshop, one of my new favorite stationery boutiques and amazing ice cream. just check out that whipped cream below. it was the perfect treat before we headed off to dinner.

i thought i'd share some photos with you from my LA trip by splitting it into a few parts. this is part one, and chronicles some adventures in brentwood with one of my best friends: delicious lunch from a great sushi spot, an unexpected orange tree and those tall palms, not to mention sunshine everywhere. we followed up lunch with a trip to the country mart (more on that later) and dinner at wurstkuche, a beer hall and gourmet sausage restaurant, which i loved. i didn't lug my camera out for that but might share some instagram shots i took later. overall, it was a perfect first day.

gloomy weather has got me in the mood to cook, and i've been eyeing these recipes for inspiration. i'm having a big kale-quinoa moment lately, after making this recipe multiple times, and now i feel like i'm searching out other dishes with those ingredients in them. i guess they're both uber healthy, so i should probably embrace this moment and continue my obsession.

a new quote to start off a new chapter in my life. you may or may not know, but i'm in the midst of a career transition and recently left behind my old post in PR to pursue a more digitally-focused path, so i'll be starting a new gig here next week. in the meantime, i've taken a week off for myself (partly spent in LA and the rest spent here in NYC) to recharge and relax a bit. i think this quote is wonderful, and very fitting for me right now. happy thursday everyone!

 

quick break

a quick break from blogging today, as i rest up and recover from my trip to LA...all i have to say is that it was an incredible getaway filled with sunsets and brunches, hiking and friends. more to report tomorrow!
