week in review

through the instagram lens. to say i'm obsessed with this app would be an understatement. it's both fun and social. i thought i'd start a (semi-regular) series on here called "week in review," where i share bits and pieces of my week with you. i think it will inspire me to stay busy and have fun during the week, and hopefully, you'll find it remotely interesting as well. also, hope you all have incredibly fun weekends! i'm planning to log some time with my family, bf and visit good old new jersey. ok, first one, here we go!

i'm writing it down to remember it now

field notes. i've seen them, and i've heard about them. yesterday, i finally ordered a set on fab.com (a very cool discount site dedicated to all things good design, join here) and i'm super excited to try them out. after reading the happiness project on my trip to china (pictures coming soon, i promise!), i've been feeling the need to journal in some way, even if it's just a sentence or two each day. a new set of notebooks is great motivation to start, so that's what i'm telling myself. i bought a variety pack of colors and i can't wait to see what i get. fingers crossed for neon.

anyway, back to the field notes--they're pretty awesome and made in the usa. they have a subscription based service you can sign up for and you'll get new notebooks every few months + goodies, they release limited edition colors and you can customize your field notes too. pretty nifty. one of my favorite parts about the brand is a smart saying they've embraced--check it out, and some field notes visuals below.

temp tats

via tattly. such a cool, awesome new site that sells legit (not those 2nd grade unicorns) temporary tattoos for all of us who are afraid of committment...at least when it comes to inking your skin. even cooler is that each one is created by a talented designer. and with the affordable price, it's kind of hard to say no. here's to rocking a (removable) rainbow on my shoulder next time you see me.

burn baby burn

it is sweltering outside here in nyc. all i'm thinking about is air conditioning, iced coffees and cold showers every time i step out. the heat wave is slowing everyone down, including me. luckily, it's friday, so there's a weekend ahead to relax. i'm very much looking forward to it. i'm finally getting over my jetlag and excited to just lay low and have some good eats, catch up on some tv shows and maybe even head to the beach. hope you have a great one!

rainbow hair

wow. in love with this look. it's bold, but in the coolest way. lauren conrad recently launched a great site called the beauty department. bri of designlovefest did the awesome blog design, of course, and this hair how-to is one of the best i've seen. a rainbow of highlights sounds pretty sweet to me.

DYING for this. but obviously, this would fall into the "frivolous purchases" category. too bad, because it's so damn beautiful. there's only one left here on shopbop--grab it quick. sorry iphone, you're not going to be the chicest phone on the block. maybe next time.

yowza. wildfox couture just launched swimwear and their photo shoot to celebrate features an edgy blonde you wish you were friends with, some perfect backdrops to celebrate summer and of course, their awesome suits. i'm loving blondie's smudgy eye makeup, tattoos and facial expressions, as well as the suits themselves--ruffles, florals, animal print, neon and black. i'm liking it. take a peek below.

girl and boy crushes

no shame. i have both, mainly celebs and models. we all know milaaaa is at the top of my girl crush list, and jt has always (from his n'sync days, the good old 90's) held some type of spot on the boy list. it goes without saying that this latest elle spread has me dying. over its fashion, and theme, but mostly, over its subjects. hot damn.

miss capricho illustrations

well, i'm back! i know i left without a bit of warning over here and it was too difficult to blog while i was away (being in china and all) but i had a great trip, though i'm glad to be home too. i'll have pictures soon!

this week is shaping up to be a busy one, but i wanted to sneak in a quick post to share miss capricho's illustrations with you, which are fantastic. vibrant watercolors and clear outlines make animals, cityscapes and fashionistas all look great on paper. sometimes, i feel like i should take another art class or mess around with watercolors again. it has been a few years, but maybe one of these days. oh, and if those flamingoes look familiar, no, you're not imagining it. they're the ones she created for dailycandy and i think they're too cute. it's actually how i first stumbled across her work. check out her portfolio here and enjoy.
